Does the 2016 Audi Q7 Horsepower Compare to an Acura MDX?

April 16th, 2016 by

Acura MDXA luxury crossover should be able to live up to the demands of an average Metro Detroit or Michigan family, but we aren’t sure the 2016 Audi Q7 horsepower stands up to its competitors. We looked at two of the Audi’s engines and compared them to the 2016 Acura MDX‘s 3.5L V6 to find out if either of the Q7 powertrains match wits with the Acura.

We know there’s more to a crossover than its power, but we think that’s a good place to start.

Under the Hood

The easiest way to talk about a car or crossover’s capabilities is to look under the hood, and while both of these vehicles have some powerful engines, they aren’t created equal.

  • The 2016 Acura MDX is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine capable of 290 hp.
  • The basic 2016 Audi Q7 horsepower rating for the 3.0L supercharged V6 is 280 hp.
  • Switching the Audi’s base powertrain out for the diesel engine drops the power even further to just 240 hp.

While the supercharged engine does come close to the MDX, it still falls short, and the diesel engine lags noticeably far behind on power.

Interior Amenities

We said that the 2016 Audi Q7 horsepower was a good place to start, but we aren’t stopping there. Here’s a quick look at the amenities you’ll find on every MDX, including the base model, that Audi would have you upgrade for on the Q7:

  • Driver-side memory settings
  • Voice-activated media controls
  • One-touch power moonroof
  • Multi-angle rearview camera
  • AcuraLink Next Generation telematics
  • Noise and sound cancellation
  • Push-button ignition

Perhaps most noticeable is the Audi’s lack of a third row of seating. Standard on the MDX, Acura drivers can fit up to seven passengers in their crossover while the Audi Q7 only manages five-person seating.

Test Drive an MDX

Whenever we make a long list of amenities and specs that show how an Acura leaves a competing model looking unfinished or outdated, we know that many of our Michigan and Detroit Metro drivers want to see that vehicle in action and notice those differences for themselves. So we invite you to visit a Michigan Acura Dealer near you to take a test drive of the MDX and feel how it leaves the 2016 Audi Q7 horsepower behind.

Michigan Acura Dealers includes Fox Acura, Dave White Acura, Acura of Troy, Ann Arbor Acura, Jeffrey Acura, and Suburban Acura.
